Electric Six

An actual couple of decades ago, I bore witness to the wonderful Electric Six. Dick Valentine, co-founder, frontman, and singular survivor of the band (formerly known as The Wildbunch), is perhaps the nicest man...ever? Post-show, he did not merely pose he conducted a bespoke wave for our camera (one with film in it!). Prior to this he had been executing choreography I had not seen the likes of before...or since!

The songs that have endured for me seem to be the ones I first heard when they achieved widespread recognition in 2003. Again, like a few of my other picks, they sit just on the right side of novelty, combining elements of rock, disco, garage rock, metal, new wave, and punk rock.

Dick just seems to be someone who loves being in a band who have now released 20 albums. The current lineup features incredible monikers like Johnny Na$hinal, Tait Nucleus?, Herb S. Flavourings, Dr. Jay, and Mr. Poison.

When I first heard "Danger! High Voltage" I could hardly believe Jack White got in board with absurdity. But he did. "Gay Bar" endures too, but a favourite at the time was "Dance Commander."
